Best Friends Part 1

ImageI have 2 people in my life that I would consider my best friends; my husband (Erkki) and someone I have known since the 7th grade, Kristen. These two people have helped me through the hardest times in my life and I do not know where I would be without them today.

This week I was watching my daughter swim and noticed how easily she can make friends, in her 5 year old world all it takes is someone mentioning My Little Pony and her heart is instantly theirs. As I was watching this I realized that as adults we cannot (or at least do not) walk up to a stranger easily and start a conversation. Even when I bring my children to the park the kids all join in a big group and play while all the adults stand to the side and either read their book or their phones and silently will that no one enters into communication with them.

ImageThis reminded me of my two best friends, the first I want to mention is Kristen. She came to my school in 7th grade and to put it short her first impression of me was not the best. However we quickly grew over our love for Celine Dion (which was not that common in 7th graders) and since then our friendship has just grown stronger. When we entered high school we only spent 1 year together right before sophomore year she moved about an 1 hour away and transferred to a new school. This was hard having my best friend so far away but as soon as I had my license things got back to normal.

Kristen and I went on vacations together, comforted each other when our hearts were broken (mine more often than hers) and just hung out. Then in 2005 we graduated high school, Kris went to college in NY and I entered the workforce. That year we kept in a little contact, but not enough. Our lives were very different and we could not really relate with one another, again communication slowed way down.

Then in October of 2006 as Kris was entering her sophomore year of college (now back home) I was getting married; I am happy to say that she was there and this still means a lot to me. However as time went by we again began to grow apart ( I was married and she was a single college student). Then in late 2007 I became pregnant with my first daughter, Kris was there toward the end of the pregnancy (even at my baby shower and the hospital!) and our relationship was again blooming. Then in 2009 both Kristen and I were expecting! This was what we always wanted to have children the same age and to be able to experience raising our kids together, it was at this time that our relationship returned back to normal.

ImageToday I am happy to know that she is still in my life, she is 1 of 2 people that really knows me. When I see how easily my daughter makes friends I am happy to see that she has the social capabilities of a 5 year old, as for me I am happy with what I have and I think I will just keep reading my book at the park willing people to not talk to me.

If you want to know more about Kris here is the link to her blog you should check this out (trust me she is a very interesting person)

Oh yeah Happy New Year!!!Image
